On August 10, 2025, a strong earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale shook western Turkey, centered near Balıkesir Province. The tremor caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure, with reports of collapsed structures and several injuries. Sadly, one elderly woman lost her life due to the collapse. The quake was felt in nearby cities including Istanbul and İzmir, prompting evacuations and emergency responses. Authorities swiftly conducted rescue operations and continue monitoring for aftershocks.
